ATLANTA — Georgia State University has unveiled a new nine-story research tower as part of a larger effort to create a more connected campus experience in downtown Atlanta.

The new building includes classrooms, lecture space and teaching labs, along with space for researchers, including those with Georgia State University’s Institute for Biomedical Sciences. The top floors are set up for future expansion.

The research tower is located off Decatur Street near the Parker H. Petit Science Center and Research Science Center.

Georgia State President Brian Blake said the new building meets a demand for modern infrastructure and new opportunities for students.

The university has been working to create a more campus-like setting in downtown Atlanta with more connected buildings and increased walkability. Those efforts include expanding its greenway, updating classrooms, adding gathering spaces, widening sidewalks and adding green space.

The university’s construction projects began in 2024 following an $80 million donation from the Woodruff Foundation.

Gov. Brian Kemp said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the new research tower and other projects contribute to a strong workforce in Georgia.
