ATLANTA – — Due to the forecast of heavy rain expected this weekend, Georgia Department of Transportation officials announced they are canceling the full closure of all lanes on I-285 in the metro Atlanta area.

GDOT officials say the next scheduled full closure of all northbound and southbound lanes on I-285 in Cobb and Fulton counties between S. Atlanta Rd and SR 280 /S Cobb Dr is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 16, until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 19, weather permitting.

In addition, GDOT officials say no single or double lane closures will be installed in the project area related to the I-285 Westside Rebuild concrete slab reconstruction and rehabilitation project in Cobb County.

The work includes improvements to the roadway shoulder lanes, the concrete median, signage, guardrail and ATMS/ITS systems, officials add.

The construction work is a part of the ongoing I-285 Westside Rebuild Project.
