GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Car thefts have been declining in multiple states, including Georgia.
According to officials, there has been a 30% drop in car thefts in Georgia, marking the lowest level nationwide in decades.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, three car models are stolen the most: the Hyundai Elantra, Honda Accord and the Hyundai Sonata.
Police officials in Gwinnett County are reminding the public that simple things like locking your doors, parking in well-lit areas and removing valuables from sight can significantly decrease car theft risks.
Nearly 660,000 vehicles have been reported stolen nationwide, officials said.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau says Georgia has fallen off of the top states that sees the most stolen vehicles. California ranks the No. 1 state for stolen vehicles, officials added.
