In the list of sentences that don’t quite make sense, this one is right up there. Star Trek legend William Shatner has let slip in an interview that he is due to play a heavy metal set at the pop-laden influencer infested Coachella Festival in April 2027, by which point he will have turned the ripe old age of 96.

Speaking to CNN, the spritely Hollywood star (current age 95) was asked what he was most excited about in the future. Replying with a laugh Shatner stated “My heavy metal!” He went on to explain “I’m beginning to get it... It’s all about passion! laughs Rage!”

According to Shatner’s label Cleopatra Records, the performance will be ‘a powerful live production that transforms both his past and most recent recordings into a full-scale rock experience.’

Shatner will be flanked by members of Nuclear Messiah and an all-star line-up of Cleopatra Records collaborators.

Set for release later this year, Shatner’s as-yet-untitled metal album features an array of heavy music titans including Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, Scorpions/Motörhead’s Mikkey Dee, ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, Zakk Wylde and Ritchie Blackmore.
