Australia’s recorded music industry is blocking fully AI-generated tracks from its official charts. The Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) announced that eligible songs must feature human-written lyrics, lead vocals, and primary instrumentation. AI-assisted music may still qualify, but only if created using licensed AI tools. The move follows controversy over an AI-produced version of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer,” which spent 16 weeks in Australia’s top 20, peaking at number two in May. ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said the changes aim to “promote the human nature of artistry.” Fully AI-generated music will also be disqualified from ARIA Awards.
