The second girl, who lives in Lufkin nearly four hours to the southeast, backed out of the arrangement but still faces a criminal conspiracy charge, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials confirmed to WFAA that both the Weatherford girl and her father were flown to hospitals, but more information about their conditions was not released. Neither girl has been identified publicly because they are juveniles.

According to the sheriff’s office, responding officers found the girl lying in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the head and her 38-year-old father suffering a gunshot wound to his stomach inside their home.

Investigators believe the girl fired both shots, and they found a handgun underneath her body.

Detectives quickly uncovered the plot hatched by the girls to kill their respective families and flee to Georgia in a vehicle the Weatherford girl had planned to procure, WFAA reported.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the sheriff’s department.
