On Sunday morning just after 7 a.m., the Cary Fire Department was called out to a house on the 600 block of Dorset Drive about an illegal trash burn. Once fire crews arrived at the house, they found a homemade fire pit that was on fire and was able to put it out, WGHP reported.

That’s when fire crews found human remains and called Cary Police Department, the news outlet reported.

The human remains were identified as Cecily Anne Walker, 34, according to WTVD. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators searched the rest of the property and found the homeowner, identified as Ian Delauder, 35, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to a news release obtained by WTVD. Another woman was found at the house not injured.

Investigators said the house has been going through some renovations and that there were two RVs on the property that were being used as temporary living spaces, WGHP reported. Authorities believe that the homeowner was burning trash from the renovations.

Investigators have not yet released the connection between the homeowner and the deceased woman, what happened or a possible motive.
