According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Bishop, the crash, which occurred at 1:21 p.m. MDT in Ogden Canyon, involved a Subaru, a Ford pickup truck hauling a horse trailer and one other vehicle, KUTV reported.

According to officials, the pickup was traveling westbound on State Route 39 through the canyon when it collided with the Subaru. The Subaru appeared to be attempting to pass another vehicle when it pulled into oncoming traffic, KSTU reported.

The driver of the Subaru was killed in the crash, the television station reported. Passengers in the truck suffered minor injuries, but one horse had to be euthanized at the scene.

The impact of the crash pushed the Subaru back into the eastbound lane, where it hit the vehicle its driver had attempted to pass, KUTV reported.

State Route 39 was closed in both directions for several hours as troopers investigated the crash, the television station reported.
