Mableton Rocks Tomorrow!

By Kaedy Kiely

The 2nd Annual Mableton Rocks Music Festival returns for another year of “Partying with a Purpose!  On Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 3:00pm to 10:15pm, the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre will house some of the best local and national bands for your listening pleasure.  Get ready for The Buggs (A Beatles Tribute), White Winged Dove (Stevie Nicks Tribute), JB Walker and the CWB, Reid Bros Band, Bubba Dew and the Boneslingers, Hit the Surf: Beach Boys Tribute, and The Band Benefield.

Mableton Rocks seeks to instill a sense of community and pride through live music and day of festivities.  In addition, while residents are being entertained, proceeds are going to a local charity of their choice.  This year’s beneficiaries are Amateur Advocates Association, Serenity House Training and Development, Mableton Improvement Coalition, Alive Ministries: Save It Forward, American Legion Post 264, Children’s Literacy of Georgia, Mableton Masonic Lodge and the South Cobb Business Association.  The Mableton Business Exchange has pledged support as well.  The American Red Cross will be onsite for a blood drive.

“Mableton Rocks is an event with the spirit of giving back and we hope to instill a sense of community pride through participation in community events,” Melissa Banks, Executive Producer and Creator of Mableton Rocks said.  “I created this event in the spirit of my father, David Banks he was a Shriner, Mason; Navy Veteran, member of the Moose; always involved in some charity event and giving back.  He instilled that in me and that is my inspiration behind the creation of Mableton Rocks.”

The event debuted last October and raised nearly $2,000 for the Amateur Advocates Association.  Tickets are $15 general admission for advanced sales.  VIP Tables in the pit are $130.Purchase tickets online at http://www.mabletonrocks.com/ today! The event is BYOB. Coolers, outside food and beverages are welcomed or purchase from local vendors onsite!

“This is event about community.  Mableton is a diamond in the rough and we need to emphasize the importance of shopping at our local businesses and encouraging our residents to look locally first,” Banks said.  “We should not have to go to Atlanta, Douglasville or Marietta for things to do, to shop or eat.  We should be able to do those things here.”

The Mableton community is celebrating 100 years of existence via former cityhood this year.  The community was incorporated on August 19, 1912 and dissolved on August 16, 1916.  The community recently held a kickoff celebration and now Banks and others are ready to rock Mableton.
