Give Us Back Peachtree Street!

By Kaedy Kiely

Do you  find the never-ending roadwork they're doing on Peachtree just south of Lenox Square insane like I do? That area is such a mess anyway, yet they're insistingly keeping a plethora of orange cones there as they take YEARS to add various-sized concrete dividers where turn lanes should be. I used to work in a high-rise that overlooked the area in north Buckhead.  A bunch of us would peer down from the 20th floor balcony to watch the madness.  From a birds-eye view, you can see just how ridiculous that roadwork is.  And I am not kidding you, they were working on this same area 4 years ago!  They are adding concrete dividers, some into which flowers have been planted -- a brilliant move with the water shortages we have come to expect every year.  I'm all for "beautifying Buckhead," but when you can barely maneuver the streets already, and the invasive work the city is doing keeps Atlanta residents from being able to get to their destinations, I think they should be working on something that eases the bottleneck for the drivers.
