Music of Mellencamp and the Creepiness of King Together

By Kaedy Kiely

Heads up on a show you'll probably be interested in, and that will be getting a LOT of press in the next few months.  Based on the book by Steven King, "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County" is coming to The Alliance Theater April 4th - May 13th.  The show features music and lyrics by John Mellencamp, and musical direction by T-Bone Burnett.  I remember seeing the first incarnation of Oprah's Broadway smash, "The Color Purple" at The Alliance.  It was a totally unique way to see the birth of a hit -- on an intimate stage.  The show has been in the works for a decade.  According to Steven King, the plot was Mellencamp's.  Mellencamp has said of the play, "If you could imagine Tennessee Williams meets Steven King."  Of the music JCM says, "It sounds like the 'Sgt. Pepper' of Americana to me."  You may want to buy your tickets early for this world-premiere!  404-733-500, or www.alliancetheatre.org/ghostbrothers
