This weeks marks 100 years since the Titanic took off on its maiden voyage to NYC, when the ship that was deemed practically "unsinkable" did the absolute unthinkable.  Atlanta is lucky to be one of only 8 cities to host Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition during this centennial remembrance.  I was at a party last night at the exhibit on the 100th anniversary of the day the Titanic set sail for NY.  4 days later, the boat and many of its passengers had perished.  The exhibit is beautifully done -- I could have even spent more time there poring over the artifacts and story boards, but feel it is a good size where one could get expect to see everything in a leisurely couple of hours.  It's mind-boggling to realize how much time was spent and how many people it took to build the enormous ship, and you really get the sense of how elaborate and beautiful it must have been seeing pieces of china, chandeliers, stained glass, and light fixtures that sat for decades 2.5 miles down to the bottom of the sea.  It's also crazy to see papers that survived in leather binders -- the leather having been tanned in such a way that it protected such delicate things.   The wall at the end of the exhibit with all of the passengers names on it divided into the classes is quite touching.  Whether you've always been drawn to the story of the Titanic, or not, this exhibit will fascinate you in many ways!  Mondays - Thursdays 11am - 6pm, and Fridays - Sundays 11am - 7pm at the Premier Exhibition Center at Atlantic Station -- Escalator 5 to the 2nd floor.
