Out With My Old.../Recycling This Weekend

Previous Posts

By Kaedy Kiely

I bought a new bed this past weekend. It was time.  My old mattress and box spring have served me well.  I kind of hate to admit how long they've served me...so I won't!  I bought one of those "Sleep Number" beds.  Since I don't get enough sleep with my early morning work schedule, I figured I'd try something that might lure me to the bedroom earlier at night.  I'll let you know how that goes!;)

Since my new bed's being delivered this weekend, I've got to get the bedroom ready, which means I've got to find a home for the stuff I store UNDER the bed.  There's very little closet space in my house so I have to be as creative as possible with storage. Now, seriously, I know exactly what's under my bed -- it's not just stuff crammed under there with no rhyme or reason, but I still don't want to have to explain it to the "Sleep Number" delivery men.  Problem is, once I start moving things in my house, I have to move other stuff to make room for it and, frankly, I outgrew my home many years ago.  So you know what I'll be doing for the next several days.  A friend has offered to help -- he's good at saying, "Kaedy, that leather jacket has shoulder pads from the '80s in it, so toss it!"  I keep thinking those shoulder pads will come back in style.

All this leads me to an event this weekend you may want to take advantage of. The Sandy Springs Recycling Center is hosting a book drive and document shredding event Saturday from 9a - 3p.  They're also collecting electronics.  There's no charge for shredding, but donations will be appreciated as it's a fundraiser for Keep North Fulton Beautiful.  You'll be able to securely shred old bank statements, credit card statements, racy love letters, incriminating photos, and other things you don't want your neighbors to see.  They'll also collect books of any kind in any condition to either pass along or recyle.  And you'll be able to recycle electronics at no charge except $10 per TV or monitor, and $25 if the TV is large screen or projector TV. I don't think they'll take my old bed, though...
