Last week we had a PINK party with the gals I had attended the PINK program at Piedmont with.  It's been a year since we attended the 12-week breast cancer program together -- working out, then meeting as a support group.  We became very close and would meet for dinners and classes at Cancer Wellness, but over the past several months (since the onset of the holidays, really) we lost touch.  One in our group's husband has been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, and we all felt the need to "circle the wagons" around her.  Can you imagine?  Cancer hitting her home again, just a few months after her last surgery?  Everyone pitched in to bring good food and wine, and it was truly a joy to welcome each person back to the fold.  At one point I stood back and watched the group of women and just marveled at how full of life and love they are.  A year ago they were broken, yet determined.  Now, you'd never know by looking at them what they've been through -- mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, dear girlfriends.  They've all been through hell and back, yet life goes on. 

I am so thankful to have many wonderful men in my life, and I am blessed to be cherished by them.  Without taking anything away from them, I have to say that women are simply remarkable.  They seem to know what you need without your having to say a word, and their strength in numbers is stronger than anything I've ever witnessed.  It certainly didn't take having breast cancer for me to know that, but my PINK buddies are a much needed reminder of it!
