Holy Shrek!

By Kaedy Kiely

Oh, I'm going to pay for it today but I was out late (for me!) last night laughing my my tail off at the opening night of Shrek The Musical.  The moment you arrive at The Fox, green sparking lights under the awning greet you so you know Shrek's in town! If  there's a show that's geared toward kids, I like to bring my young buddy, 5-year-old Emmie Grace, to help gauge what the young audience will think.  Judging from the very enthusiastic crowd last night, it's definitely a show the whole family will enjoy -- much like the Shrek movies.  I wasn't sure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised by some great musical numbers, and I just loved the many clever, magical moments.  The number with Dragon, Donkey, and the shackled, bearded back-up singers/prisoners is simply amazing -- I was blown away by it!  I couldn't get enough of watching Lord  Farquaad, and you'll have to see why for yourself.  The show's a bit long, so be sure the kids get a nap.  And, believe me, there are big pay-offs following the few times the show seems to drag a bit, so don't try to cut out early.  The show runs through Sunday, but you get a great deal on tickets for tonight (Wed.)  Families can take advantage of a special BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE ticket deal for this evening’s performance (using code KIDS, valid on tickets in price level 1). Little Ogres and Princesses can also attend a FREEKids Night on Broadway” celebration in the Fox Theatre’s Grand Salon from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. There'll be a variety of fun activities like cookie decorating, arts and crafts, games, coloring sheets, a prize wheel, and Shrek-themed treats from Morelli’s Ice Cream. Tonight's "Kid’s Night" participants can meet the two little girls who play ‘Young Shrek’ and ‘Young Fiona’ in the musical; the actresses will be available to sign autographs from 6:30 – 7:15PM.
