Support Some Terrific Local Businesses

By Kaedy Kiely

A couple of weeks ago, I attended the extraordinary Health and Wellness Expo at Lenox Square.  There were free screenings and mammograms all day long, and I met loads of interesting folks there sharing their wealth of knowledge and information for free!  This wasn't just a representation of groups for the prevention of cancer.  The GA chapter of The Lupus Foundation, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The American Kidney Fund, The Atlanta Gastroenterology, and loads more organizations were there.  Do yourself a favor and plan to attend next year.  There's something for the whole family.

I stopped by some tables at the Expo that had local vendors I thought were unique and may interest you.  Did you know that we have a creamery in Atlanta?  I tried some AMAZING Greek Style Yogurt from Atlanta Fresh Artisan Creamery.  I've learned in some of my cooking classes that for good health, Greek yogurt is terrific!  I tasted this local brand and was blown away by how good it was.  They have delicious flavor combinations like Vanilla Caramel, Peach Ginger, and Black Cherry & Port Wine.  My favorite was the unusual Tropical Sweet Heat with fruit and peppers!! -- fantastic!  You'll find these fresh yogurts at metro Atlanta Whole Foods.  I rushed right out to get some and, of course, they were out of my fave!

Best Self Atlanta Magazine is a terrific FREE publication that is all about health and wellness, and features local celebs and offers info, tools, and resources to help you become your best self.  I'm really enjoying this magazine, and a nice feature on their website is that you can enter your zip code and you'll find where nearby you can pick up your copy.

If you're looking for an alternative to food and flowers to send to someone who's having a tough time, you can send some comfort with a soft gift from "be well wishes."  They have wonderful ideas with their delightful bumble bee logo -- especially soft and oversized sleep shirts and pants, blankets and pillowcases -- even onesies.  You need to check them out and read the interesting story of how Tina and Martin Chadwick started their company.

The BlueMed Spa had a representative at the Expo and, coincidentally, a friend had given me one of their hot stone massages for my birthday.  I went last week and I loved it!  They not only offer all kinds of spa services, you can indulge in their clinical and comprehensive services, too.  I really like their vibe, and their Club Blue Membership will save you a lot of money on massages, etc.  You'll get a good feel of what they're about by going to their website at www.bluemedspa.com

Of course, my friends from The Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer were there.  The walk is coming this fall, Oct 2-3, and there are lots of wonderful events leading up to it to get you geared up for it. This Saturday from 8:30a - 12:30p there's an Open House at the 2-Day Walk office, 180 Allen Rd. South, Suite 201, Atlanta 30328.  You'll have a chance to meet walkers, sponsors, the crew and staff of the 2-Day, and either register as a walker or find out what you can do to help by volunteering.  Treats will be provided, and there's even an orientation and training walk if you've already registered.  Check out the 2-Day's NEW website to find out lots more -- www.2daywalk.org.  One of my favorite things about the Atlanta 2-Day Walk is that the money raised stays in the metro Atlanta area to benefit local breast cancer organizations.
