Praying For Good News

Previous Posts

I spent the long weekend with my friend who was just diagnosed with DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). She has her lumpectomy today and, so far, her prognosis looks very good.  DCIS is the earliest form of breast cancer -- it's considered Stage 0, because the cancer is non-invasive and is confined to the milk ducts.  Of course, we'll know lots more after her surgery.  Cancer is such an insidious disease -- it takes time and several steps to know for sure how far it's spread and even then, when you think you've got it figured out, there's a decent chance you don't.  My friend did take the BRCA test, as her sister and aunt have both had breast cancer, and the good news is that she tested negative for the breast cancer gene.  If she had the gene, she probably would have had a double mastectomy.  So the news seems to be positive (after the initial shock) for my dear friend and all of us who love her.  I'm hoping the lumpectomy will be the only treatment she needs.  It certainly helped my frame of mind to see her doing well and staying upbeat.  We had a fun weekend of hunting for shark's teeth on the beach, cook-outs, and poker games with her husband and friends.

I met with my Wellness Coach, Barbara, yesterday and I start my workouts with the Pink program at Piedmont today!
