Weekend Festivities

By Kaedy Kiely

The Evening of Hope benefit for the American Cancer Society Friday night was terrific.  I was touched to be the "Survivor Honoree," and my fears about giving a speech to the crowd about my own cancer experiences proved silly.  The attendees were kind, supportive, and lots of fun!  There were over 200 people there, and my favorite part was being able to acknowledge and shine a light on my wonderful doctors and nurses who were all there.  I knew my docs would be there but I had no idea my radiation nurses and therapist would be, and I could have cried I was so happy to see them all (all dressed up too -- looking amazing out of their scrubs!)  Everything about the event was perfect!   The Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta is a beautiful venue -- warm and classy. If you're ever looking for a nice place to throw a party, this is it!  My brother Frank and my sister-in-law and niece flew in from Chicago to be there with my mom and me, so we had a great weekend together.

Did you like The Grammys last night?  Stevie Nicks performance with Taylor Swift was a surprise to me -- she was great -- and I loved seeing Butch Walker (who Atlanta was home for as he was hitting the big time -- does anyone remember Southgang?) playing the "banjolin" (as he called it) during that same performance.  Elton with Lady GaGa was cool, and Bon Jovi was great but I would have preferred once song instead of a medley.  I was staying up too late as it was then, so have it all TiVo'ed to zip through later.
