R.I.P. John Lennon 12/08/80

How did you hear the news?  I was a college senior at Emory, pulling an all-nighter with my roommate as we were working on typing our English papers.  We ended up pulling an all-nighter watching Nightline with Ted Koppel and Geraldo Rivera giving us the details of the terrible news, and reminiscing about our love of The Beatles.  The tragedy wasn't just in the irony that a talented, enormously famous young man who espoused peace was shot dead.  Another tragedy for us was that The Beatles would never be again. Before December 8, 1980, we all liked to imagine that something might have made them reunite at last -- the demands of their fans, time healing all wounds, or perhaps even a $3000 offer from Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live.  Knowing that it would never happen closed a precious chapter of all of our rock 'n roll lovin' lives...
