My Last Week of "PINK" at Piedmont

Previous Posts

By Kaedy Kiely

We had our last PINK support group yesterday afternoon, and have our last workout tomorrow.  I can't tell you how valuable this 12-week program is for any woman who is undergoing breast cancer treatments!  I've had the opportunity to work out with and meet a special group of women who all share the breast cancer experience, but who are otherwise vastly different.  We've developed a very special bond through the PINK program.  Each one of us is in a different phase of recovery -- two women had to leave for a couple of weeks to have their reconstruction done, others have been undergoing radiation, and a few (like me) have recently finished treatments.  Not only do we get to exercise together 3 times a week (and anytime on your own) in the beautiful gym at Piedmont, we get to take advantage of one-on-one "wellness coaching" sessions with Barbara Robey, personal nutrition sessions with Shayna Komar, and several personal training and evaluation sessions with the wonderfully supportive exercise physiologists at Piedmont.  The experience of our weekly group meetings with Barbara and Gillian at the helm is where we've gathered in a circle to share our stories, fears, information, hopes, and celebrations -- what a joy to watch such vulnerable, brave women gain strength from each other -- priceless! What's even more priceless is that this experience is FREE to ANY woman within 8 months of her last breast cancer treatment.  She can take advantage of as much or as little of the PINK experience as she wants to -- they ask that she makes it to at least one exercise group a week.  Other than that, she is absolutely welcome to participate as much as her personal and physical limitations allow -- she might even be surprised at how her boundaries change!  The new 12-week PINK session starts later this month (4/25), so if you know a woman who meets the criteria and would benefit from this support, please encourage her to take advantage of this wonderful gift.  She'll find out more by going to piedmontcancer.org.  She can register  for PINK by calling 404-605-1969.  I can't say enough about this terrific, healing, positive experience!
