Back From Denver

Previous Posts

By Kaedy Kiely

I had a terrific break with family in Denver for the last several days.  The weather there was just perfect.  70's during the day and upper 40's at night -- exactly what we'll be getting the next couple of days!  My niece Whitney is expecting a baby girl around Thanksgiving, so it was great to be able to be there for her baby shower and other assorted Kiely celebrations.  My brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Susan, were honored for their dedication to the arts in Denver after a performance of RAIN, the Beatles tribute show.  I've got to say this show is terrific, and I was tickled to see that it's coming to The Fox for a week Oct. 6 - 11.  There are some extraordinary performances from 4 guys who have been channeling the Fab Four for many, many years.  They are terrific musicians, and have the mannerisms and looks down from every phase of The Beatles.  One of my favorite moments was "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" -- goosebumps!  If you are a Beatles fan, you don't want to miss this show and you ARE encouraged to sing along.

I'm doing well after my final radiation treatment last Thursday.  Wow, what an unbelievable feeling to be done and to not have to think about stopping by the hospital on my way home from work!  I'm still swollen and quite burned -- it was probably at it's peak a couple of days ago.  This morning I'm finally noticing the sting isn't quite as bad.  I have a follow up appointment with my Rad Doc in 3 months.  Next step is whatever medication my oncologist will prescribe for me to take for, typically, the next 5 years.  It's hard for me to believe that it's been nearly 7 months since the day I was diagnosed.  In some ways it seems like yesterday.  I appreciate hearing from folks via e-mail or posts on this blog about what to expect when one's done with the treatments.  I know this cancer thing will never leave me entirely -- I will always be praying that we got it all this first time!
