One Of Atlanta's Best Kept Secrets

Previous Posts

By Kaedy Kiely

I had a terrific experience Monday afternoon at the new Piedmont Cancer Wellness Center on Howell Mill Road.  One of The River's stellar account reps, Jill, asked me if I'd be interested in helping promote the center through our station and I immediately said yes!  One of Atlanta's best kept secrets is not going to be a secret at all if I have anything to do with it!  My friend Susan has been taking advantage of the excercise, yoga, and support groups that Piedmont offers for FREE for quite a long time, and she's been encouraging me to join her ever since I was diagnosed.  I knew that once I finished my treatments I wanted to get my body and mind adjusted, so I was planning to check out the brand new center anyway.  I took the grand tour Monday and was thrilled!

When you walk into the center, the first thing you notice is a huge, sparkling kitchen for the cooking classes and meals they offer from time to time.  I'm planning on registering for the "Cooking With Fresh Herbs" class on Oct. 22nd.  I'm also going to be co-hosting a cooking class at the center next month that I'll be letting you know about.  I wish I had known about the "What To Eat When You Are Undergoing Chemotherapy And/Or Radiation" class -- perfect for my friends whose tastebuds are being effected by treatments.   The center offers (and has beautiful, open rooms for) Yoga classes, Accupuncture, Art classes, and all kinds of support groups for patients and their loved ones.  The "Look Good...Feel Better" class that I took takes place the second Tuesday of every month where you'll learn make-up tricks and go home with all kinds of wonderful products to use.  I even checked out a book from the Reading Room!  This amazing support system is FREE for you or your loved one, and it doesn't matter where you live to check out the program at the new Piedmont West Medical Office Park at 1800 Howell Mill Road.  Visit their website to download a schedule of classes or a map: www.piedmontcancer.org/littlec   Thanks to Diana and Nina, my favorite part of the tour was going down to the basement to Radiology to say hi to some of the wonderful folks that helped treat me over at Piedmont Hospital -- such compassionate and talented people!    Plan to join us on Saturday, November 21st for an open house at the center -- I'll give you more details soon, but mark your calendar now!!
