October is THE month for breast cancer awareness.  Although we tend to think of it as pink, pink, pink for women, I was reminded this morning about the men that suffer from this disease while reading about former KISS drummer Peter Criss who was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.  He writes,"With (early detection), my great doctor and staff, and the Lord above, who always looks over me, I am cancer-free today! I wanted to let you know men get it like women do. Don't be afraid to let someone know if you have a lump. Do the right thing for you and your loved ones and get it checked."

 I was involved in a wonderful event Monday with my good friend Vikki Locke -- the Pink Ribbon Golf Classic in Marietta.  You really know people are devoted when nearly every one who signed up to play golf that day showed up in the pouring rain!  The rain stopped just in time for a welcome program which included Vikki's and my reading names of people we were honoring or remembering while the crowd released dozens of pink and white balloons and a bagpiper played "Amazing Grace."  Whew!  Not a dry eye in the house.

 My sister-in-law is honoring me and others she knows by walking in the 2-Day in Philly this weekend.  A friend turned me on to this group, as friends of hers are participating in a bike ride this month to raise money for them:  http://www.youngsurvival.org/about-ysc/
