I felt good this morning for my first day on the radio since my chemo Friday afternoon (it may have helped that I got to give away $10,000 at 7:30 a.m.!) I'm told to expect major fatigue, some nausea, possible tingling in my extremities, etc., but so far I've only noticed indigestion--knock wood! I'm not even sure that's not from eating like mad because of the steroids they gave me for swelling from chemo. Isn't this all lovely conversation? I never dreamed I'd be sharing such personal body functions with you.Â
My sleep hours have been ridiculous ever since I started Mornings on The River last September. I had always done Afternoons (3-7p) in radio, and lack of sleep was never an issue. I could be out for an appearance until sunrise and still get 8 hours of shut-eye before work. My night-owl ways have been hard to break, so I typically break up my sleep - 4 or so hours at night, then a 2-hour nap during the day. I never seem to be getting quite enough sleep, but I was quite impressed today to lay down to rest at noon and wake up after 6p! There's a friend at work who's also going through chemo right now. He's a bit ahead of me and reminds me that, "not to be a bummer," the effects are cumulative.Â
Did you see the Farrah story that aired on TV Friday night? I TiVoed it and watched with my mom last night. I was amazed by most of it. It's full of hope, faith, heartbreak, information, and reminded me of how connected we all are no matter what our place in life is. I am very lucky to have a job where, through the radio, I can connect to you so easily by phone, e-mail or blog. The many wonderful phone messages and e-mails I've gotten since I was diagnosed have inspired me to encourage you to share your experiences with others through this blog too, so please feel free to respond!
