Crazy day yesterday! Â I started my first round of chemo at 2 p.m. Â I was very relaxed with my Mom and brother Mark hanging out with me. My nurse, Terry, started my IV with medicine to prevent nausea, then some saline and the first of two bags of different chemo medicine, which was to take about an hour. Â I was in the middle of answering a friend's text when my throat started feeling pressure, then my chest, then all the way down to my tailbone. Â For a minute, I thought I was having a panic attack-indigestion-hot flash but it turned out I was having an allergic reaction to the medication. Â So Terry shut it down, hooked me up to a bag of Benedril, then we continued going MUCH more slowly with the drip to make sure I could handle the same medicine. Â It worked like a charm -- no more reaction, but it took a lot longer than originally planned, and I had a big event to get to by 7. Â I had 15 minutes to get ready for, what turned out to be, one of the most memorable nights of my life!
My "Project Wednesday" buddies (an eclectic group I've spent most Wednesday nights with for several years now for dinner, great laughs, and VERY stimulating conversation) threw quite the reception in my honor before a performance of "A Sunday Afternoon at Loehmann's," a new comedy written by two of my "Project" friends, John Gibson and Anthony Morris.  Several other women of Atlanta radio were invited to be guest hosts -- my dear friends Mara Davis, Jordan Graye, and Vikki Locke, and my newer radio gal-pals Cynthia Young, and  Melissa Carter -- ALL extraordinarily talented women whom I admire tremendously.  John was absolutely hilarious onstage introducing all of us and eliciting laughter from the audience at my expense.  One of my favorites -- "When Kaedy told us she had breast cancer I thought, 'Oh crap! She's gonna make us walk for 3 days!'  So I thought we'd beat her to the punch and throw her this night instead."   I was touched by having so many wonderful people together in one spot -- such powerful support from family, old friends, new friends, friends from work, a growing sorority of survivors I'm meeting, and some of my precious listeners.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the sold-out event last night a great evening for The Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition, too -- John and Anthony were so generous to donate 100% of the proceeds to this fine group who lobby for more research.  Thanks to The Fox Theatre, Live Nation, The American Boot Camp Company, Lakewood Amphitheater, 790 The Zone, and The New 97.1 The River and B98.5 Promotion Director Extraordinaire Dave Clapper for donating wonderful auction items. A big thank you, too, to the folks at The Ansley Park Playhouse and the fabulous cast of "A Sunday Afternoon at Loehmann's."  The show is great, adult comedy -- check it out at ansleyparkplayhouse.com.
