So You Think You Can Cry?

Previous Posts

I met with my radiologist earlier this week and I like her very much.  She took the time to explain exactly what would be happening with my therapy.  I'll be starting the week of August 10th, and it'll take 6 and 1/2 weeks.  The first 4 weeks they'll radiate the entire breast, then the last couple of weeks they'll focus on the area where my tumor was.  I have an appointment a week from Monday where they'll do precise measurements and make some kind of a mold that will position me exactly.  My cancer was on my left side, so they have to consider that, since my heart is under there, they do everything possible to keep the radiation off of my heart.  My best friend, Alice, is a General Practicioner in Jacksonville, and she has been guiding me and giving me a great perspective through every step of this experience.  She was, initially, concerned about the radiation process because my cancer had been on my left side near my heart.  She talked to some of her friends that are radiologists and they assured her that, in this day and age, radiation is precise and accurate and that it is an amazing tool in helping keep my cancer from coming back.  I feel like I've been super lucky getting such great docs between my surgeon, oncologist and radiologist.  These are folks that I'm going to be growing old with, so our good partnership is very important in my recovery/wellness.

Ok, I may lose some of you here but, do you watch "So You Think You Can Dance?"  I enjoy it because I can halfway watch and do other things at the same time like check e-mail, read, etc.  Last night, there was an incredible performance from two young dancers that was telling a story of a woman with breast cancer.  From the beginning movement, I was so touched that I found myself crying for the first time in months!  From the motions of anguish and pain, to soaring hope and faith, the dance was an amazingly powerful thing to watch.  I was glad not to have missed it, and I got a little therapy I must have needed at the same time!
