Clapton and The Moody Blues in March!

Previous Posts

Wow!  I'm excited to announce the Eric Clapton concert (BIG special guest to be announced Monday) at the Gwinette Arena March 9th (tix on sale 12/12 at 10am,) and The Moody Blues at The Fabulous Fox Theatre March 19th (tix on sale 12/14.)  I've seen both of these bands many times and love 'em live!   Win your Clapton tickets with me three times a morning all next week around 6:20, 7:20 and 8:20a, and win your Moodys tix with Kate McCarthy all week in the afternoon around 5:20p, by being the 25th caller when we ask you to call in.

Several years ago, the day before Clapton was playing Philips Arena, I got a call from a friend who was a therapist at The Shepherd Spinal Center asking me if there was any way I could arrange for one of his teen-aged patients to see the concert.  This young man had had an accident that left him a quadriplegic, and he had loved playing guitar and was a HUGE Clapton fan.  I wasn't feeling too good about being able to do anything a day before the show, but I called my friend Ann-Marie who worked at Philips at the time and she worked some magic.  She managed to get seating for this kid in his wheelchair for the sold-out performance -- I met him before the show at my live broadcast from Philips, and you could tell he was just thrilled to be seeing his guitar hero.  Well, the next day at work, I got a thank you e-mail from my friend at Shepherd's with a wonderful story and a photo attached.  There was his patient sitting BACKSTAGE with Eric Clapton leaning over his shoulder, posing for the perfect picture!!  The look on their faces was priceless.  One of the tech guys who worked at Philips got this boy backstage!  Now I've been in the radio business for over 25 years and have met almost all of my musical heroes from McCartney to Robert Plant and the Stones,  but I've never met Eric Clapton and have never known him to do radio interviews.  For him to take the time to give this kid an over-the-top experience by meeting with him backstage was quite a loving gesture. The stars aligned just right that night for a teen-aged boy -- you know he'll never forget that experience!  And I've never felt quite the same way about Clapton -- in a good way, of course!
