ZZ Top's Eliminator: 25 Years Later

By Rachel Logan

After numerous delays, the 25th anniversary of ZZ Top'sEliminator has arrived in stores. The deluxe CD and DVD package includes seven bonus tracks, five of which are previously unreleased live cuts, plus packaging that features rare photos and extensive liner notes from longtime band publicist and confidant Bob Merlis. The DVD contains videos of the album's singles as well as rare live performances.

ZZ Top had over 10 years of success behind them by 1983, but their popularity shifted gears that year with the release of their eighth studio album. Powered by the hits "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Got Me Under Pressure," "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs," Eliminator has sold more than 10 million copies, making it one of the first albums to be awarded diamond certification by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

Billy Gibbons reflected on the fact that ZZ Top was different from many of the other bands having big success in 1983, "The unusual image that we now maintain and have maintained since before Eliminator was seemingly at odds with the style and fashion of 1983. We certainly weren't big hair bands. We wore cowboy hats and long beards and then when the success of the record took hold, it was a little ironic that something so unusual and so different would be embraced with such popularity."

Hey..we think when it comes to ZZ Top, they set their own trends and have given us some killer classic music over the years.  That's definitely something to celebrate!
