No Rock on 96-1!!!

and so it ends!

So I should be happy right??  One of The River's competitors is no longer a competitor.  Yesterday, the powers that be at Clear Channel Atlanta decided to use the frequency sitting at 96.1 as the launching ground of their new format and station.  Power 96 - and it's now a Top 40 station.  You know....Katy Perry, Usher, Rhaianna (however she spells it) and the like.  What bums me out is that for as long as we remember - 96 point 1 has ALWAYS BEEN a Rock station and to be honest - At one time, one of the best in the country.

Ahhh - times change.  I get it.  I got it when 96 Rock changed to Project and I didn't listen much to Project but the frequency was always sacred.  Always a place to get Rock n' Roll, in one form or another.  Well, that has ended and I'll be honest.....That's a bummer.

Look, I welcome new listeners - I truly do and I hope that some people come try out what we do and love it like I do but as I said - it's sad to know that 96-1 will now be playing Pitbull and not Metallica.

I wish the best of luck to those that are out of a gig and I acknowledge the legacy of the call letters - WKLS!!!  To all that have worked there.  To all the stories that were told there.  To all the rockers that walked those halls - Thanks for the memories.

And finally - To the powers that be - Thanks for the gift!!

ROCK ON 96 ROCK - You will be missed - Even by ME!!!
