The Doors earn a lifetime ban on CBS-TV’s Ed Sullivan Show after they sing the line “Girl, we couldn’t get much higher” in their hit song “Light My Fire.” The band was asked to change that particular line just for the show, which Jim Morrison agreed to, but then they sing anyway. This angered the host and led to the lifetime ban. (1967)

Billy Joel starts recording “Piano Man” (1973)

RCA Victor introduces a new invention at the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York, the 33 1/3 rpm long-playing or “LP” record. Unfortunately they overprice the new record player for it, resulting in the new format to lie dormant for almost 2 decades until 1948 when the record company Columbia revives it (1931)

The Fleetwood Mac reunion tour kicks off at the Meadows in Hartford, Conn. The tour was to support their new album The Dance (1997)
