Jon Anderson of YES is born (1944).

President Nixon asks radio program directors to ban all songs containing drug references (1970).

Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers is born (1962).

Kurt Cobain of Nirvana tops Forbes’ list of the top-earning dead rock stars, earning $50 million over the past year (2006).

AC/DC’s “You Shook Me all Night Long” earns the group their very first pop Top 40 hit (1980).

The Beatles started their first tour of Sweden playing two shows at Nya Aulan, Sundstavagen, Karlstad, Sweden. Unfortunately a local reviewer wasn’t impressed with the band and said that they should grateful to their screaming fans for drowning out the horrible performance (1963).

The Rolling Stones perform on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. After a riot broke out in the studio, Sullivan swore that the band would never appear on his show again, but the group did end up coming back another 5 times between ’65-’69 (1964).

The Jimi Hendrix Experience double album Electric Ladyland is released (1968).
