Follow us here, this gets a little complicated but it’s worth it.
The law banning indoor smoking is about ten years old with some unintended consequences beginning to pop up.
In New York there has been a rise in people being injured outside bowling alleys. The reasoning is that smokers who step out for a puff in bowling shoes are falling making trips to the emergency room.
Who knew NOT smoking would be hard on your health?
The Albany-Times Union reports the solution is this.
A new measure is being pushed that would require bowling centers put up signs.
The warning would read something like this “bowling shoes worn outside can be hazardous to your health.”
Oh yeah, that’ll stop it.
The representative behind the bill figures at the very least it might protect the bowling centers from being hit with lawsuits.
But wait, there’s one final juicy piece to this story.
The signs are being held up by……..wait for it…..the state Trial Lawyers Association.
Their reasoning? "We cannot support any legislation that undercuts the constitutional right to a trial by a jury."
Like we always say, you can’t make this stuff up.
