Atlantic Leadership Forum (ALF) is a leadership program designed to support undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds to develop and strengthen their leadership skills. The main goal of ALF is to give students who are attending a college or university in the State of Georgia a vision for serving the community with a global perspective, by forging connections with locally, nationally, and internationally-renowned leaders and public servants.ALF programs are designed to create opportunities for participants to bridge the gap between the theory and practice of leadership skills necessary to thrive in their future professional careers. Together with sponsoring institutions, twice a year ALF identifies undergraduate and graduate students and organizes a luncheon to introduce them to leaders in the community. Some departments/majors accepted into the program are: Criminal Justice Political Science / International Affairs Journalism / Communication / Media Sociology /Anthropology / Religion If your department/major is not listed here. The Atlantic Leadership Forum program has three parts:1- Leadership Forum2- Essay (Mandatory only to be eligible for the international trip)3- International Trip Leadership ForumSpring 2014's Atlantic Leadership Forum (ALF) will take place on January 29, 2014 at the Georgia Capitol. In order to attend the forum, students must enroll by using the enrollment form here at the Eventbrite site. The fee for the students to attend the program at the Georgia State Capitol which includes a certificate of participation, networking reception, light lunch and photo opportunity with Georgia's prominent leaders is just $20 per person. Please note that space is limited.EssayIn order to be eligible for the 10 day international leadership trip to Turkey, students must submit an essay no longer than 1200 words about a hero or leader of their choice and what made this person a true leader.Potential figures include but are not limited to Martin Luther King, Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt, Fethullah Gülen and Nelson Mandela. Essay submissions should be made through ALF's Facebook site. The deadline for submissions is Monday January 22, 2014. If you do not have a Facebook account you can submit your essay as a word document to firstname.lastname@example.org.Once the essays are submitted and reviewed by the ALF, the winner students will be announced at the forum.International Trip to TurkeyInternational trip is for students who participate in the forum with a leadership essay. In the forum top two students will be awarded with an all expenses paid 10 day trip to Turkey during the summer of 2014 excluding the international roundtrip airfare and the admininstrative fee. Students may join the trips during one of the following dates depending on availability:1) May 26-June 5 (Academic-Faculty)2) June 6-16 (Academic-Faculty)3) June 17-27, 2014 (Community Leaders).
