Interested in working in the grip or electric department? At a very basic level, grips provide support and movement to the camera department by building and maintaining equipment, such as rigging for moving vehicles, and mounting on and securing dollies and cranes. Electricians service, place, and operate lights and their accessories, in addition to running and managing the power source and distribution of power for the entire film set. Grips and electricians, along with the camera department, work together to create the camera and lighting set-ups required by the director of photography and ultimately, the director. The focus of this workshop is detailed departmental job descriptions, hierarchy, protocol, terminology, tools of the trade, do's and don'ts, and the disposition needed to eventually work in the G & E department. Taught by union professionals.
