For many new parents, properly providing for a baby’s health and nutrition can be a daunting task. Today’s parents are equally or more concerned with baby’s nutrition as they are with their own. In this series of classes Preserving Place will show new parents that making their own baby food is an easy way to control their child’s nutritional needs, provide incredible variety as well as saving time and money. Stage 1 classes will discuss nutritional needs of 6-8 month olds, discuss proteins and provide hands-on demonstration of pureeing fruits and vegetables. Equipment needs will be outlined as well. Participants will complete the class with several jars to take home to baby. Follow-on classes will focus on baby’s food needs as they grow.
Valeria Horner – A first generation Italian-American, Val grew up in her parents’ Florida restaurants. Her extensive management experience led to corporate jobs at Starbucks, Mellow Mushroom and Nordstrom. At Nordstrom she managed two single-store restaurants and helped develop and implement merchandising and inventory control systems chain-wide. Longing to get back into the kitchen, Val has been teaching and leading demonstrations and private events for Sur La Table. She is expecting her first child in October.
