The Ludwig Symphony Orchestra presents "An International Festival Gala Concert" with renowned Korean violinist-Janet Sung, Peruvian baritone-Jose Sacin, and local wunderkind pianist-Joshua Shue. Maestro Thomas Ludwig conducts the richly varied program that includes Rossini's-Overture to the Silken Ladder, Wagner's-Prelude and Love Death from Tristan and Isolde, the Scherzo from Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1, two Verdi arias, the Ludwig-Violin Concerto, and the Andante from the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2. Powerful baritone-Jose Sacin from the Washington Opera interprets two arias in honor of the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth-"Pieta, rispetto amore" from Macbeth and the popular "Cortigiani" from Rigoletto. Internationally renowned violinist-Janet Sung performs the Atlanta premiere of the newly revised Ludwig Violin Concerto. After an NPR radio broadcast of her performance with the National Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Leonard Slatkin called her "a major musical personality who blends bravura technique with elegant musical style". The Ludwig Violin Concerto was called "strikingly passionate, lush, and lyrical" by the Miami Sun-Sentinel at its premiere in Festival Miami. Local wunderkind pianist-16-year-old Joshua Shue makes his debut with the first movement of the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2 with esteemed Maestro Thomas Ludwig conducting the 80-piece orchestra.
