June 9: "Herbert Kohn, Germany"
As a young boy living in Frankfurt, Germany, Herbert Kohn was an eyewitness to Kristallnacht. His family lived in Germany for 450 years, both his father and grandfather fought in the German army, yet his father was arrested and sent to Buchenwald concentration camp. There was no safety for Jews in Hitler's Germany, forcing the Kohn family to make decisions that ultimately meant life or death.
