The Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, will host a Male Mentoring Symposium on May 4, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. focused on issues related to African-American males between the ages of 13 - 17 in the Gwinnett County community. This event will be held at Sweetwater Middle School located at 3500 Cruse Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30044. One of our national initiatives is the EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program. The program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-American males. Both informal and empirical data suggest the vast majority of African-American males continue to be in crisis and are not reaching their fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally. EMBODI is designed to address these issues through dialogue and recommendations for change and action. This program is in collaboration with community partners and youth focused organizations in Gwinnett County. There will be panel discussions and workshop sessions focused on key issues related to young males. Please contact us with questions via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
