On January 28th there was an incident that took place in the community, where a male high school teenager was a victim of gang violence. He was left with a fractured jaw. Two weeks prior to this incident, a female high school student was brutally attached and was taken to the hospital. In the closing of January, we viewed the disturbing news of Price Middle School where a student was wounded due to gun violence. I share these stories with you, because I have worked and am still working with the youth in... this community that were affected by violence. It breaks my heart, as a youth leader in the community, to see the world have more influence on our youth than the educational system, church, and family. That’s why I have created the “All-Star Weekend” –Shining the light back in the community that will take place March 16th, 2013. This event will consist of educational information, motivational speakers, fraternities and sororities on the seriousness of hazing, anti-violence groups, a concert, music, fun, games, food and prizes. The best part is, this will all be FREE to the community. I know if we can come together as a community we can change the course of history and create the next leaders, politicians, judges, actors, and policeman, instead of creating a new cell in the prison wall or an obituary for a funeral. Later on NHS SECME/PHD will have their main event at 7pm "Mama's Got A Brand New Bag Reloaded", where they will have a small preshow before the play
