Chinese brush painting stems from Chinese calligraphy. Chinese Calligraphy abstracts objects in line work. Both emphasize the inner quality of the artist in every aspect of their character and personality. Chinese paintings are often accompanied by writings and Chinese calligraphy sometimes includes brush art. This class will explore both. Seeing Chinese characters as icons, you can design with one meaningful character a phrase, a sentence or a whole poem. I will incorporate both group demonstrations and individual instructions.
