Learn about African American participation in the Civil War. Volunteer to join the military and go through a soldier’s progress from boot camp to the struggles and triumphs of fighting in the war. Meet Abraham Lincoln and understand his motivations for writing the Emancipation Proclamation. Encounter two living history characters with contrasting points of view of what life was like during the 1860s and engage in a thought-provoking dialogue about the role of women during the Civil War.

Some of this event is outdoors; please dress appropriately. In case of heavy rain, the program is preformed indoors. Please note: some activities in the program are not wheelchair accessible. 

Black History Month Fridays at the Atlanta History Center. Admission is $8 per student; one adult admitted free for every10 students; Title I schools receive a discounted rate of $6 per student.
