We Remember Raines
Film Screening
Saturday, February 09. 3:00 p.m.
The Auburn Avenue Research Library will host a screening of the film, We Remember Raines, by filmmaker Emanuel Washington. This compelling documentary utilizes archival resources and oral histories to intimately explore the story of William Raines High School, a historically black institution in Jacksonville, Florida. Built in 1965 with a two-million dollar investment by the Duval County school district to avoid desegregation, William Raines High School would become a dynamic institution that inspired generations of African Americans to strive for educational excellence and social equality. Following the screening, there will be a discussion with William Raines High School alumni, facilitated by Emanuel Washington.
