New African Grove Theatre Company 2012-2013 Season TicketWe will present 4 plays this season.   The first is Single Black Female by Lisa Thompson.  It is a funny, but very insightful look at the issues and challenges of single, middle-class women. This is an 'adults night out' kind of piece.  Note: This production will be presented at Arts Of Cobb - 19 Powder Springs ST, Marietta GA, 30064. We will follow that with the world premier of Sins Of The Father by Synthia Williams.  This piece explores the relationship of a grandfather, father and son.  We weave through their prospective pasts and watch them struggle to forgive and understand each other.  This play will start Emmy nominated, Tony award winning actor Taurean Blacque.  You may know him for his role as  Detective Neal Washington in the Emmy winning television series Hill Street Blues. Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331. The third show of the season will be Hunger In Paradise by Mary McCallum.  It is a play that has been well received all over the country and Mary has graciously allowed us to present it.  A typical review of the play reads:Mary McCallum has dramatized one of America’s most shameful episodes of racial strife into one of the finest historical plays I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. She has masterfully interwoven historical events and personalities into a fascinating fictional tapestry…. “Hunger in Paradise” is a truly magnificent blend of history and creative composition.” – Bill Dorian, Reviewer, Nashville Pride  - Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331. We will end the season with our annual August Wilson tribute.  This time we will be doing the play set in the '10s, Joe Turner's Come And Gone.  This is often cited as Wilson's favorite and it also one of my favorites.  It is probably the most overtly spiritual of the Wilson plays.  It takes place in a boarding house and is a montage of people seeking to find their identities at the start of the new century. Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331. The dates for our shows are:  Single Black Female - November 17th - November 18th  Note: This production will be presented at Arts Of Cobb - 19 Powder Springs ST, Marietta GA, 30064. Sins Of The Father - January 18th - January 20th Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331. Hunger In Paradise - April 12th - April 14th Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331. Joe Turner's Come And Gone - August 23rd - August 25th Note: This production will be presented at Southwest Arts Center - 915 New Hope RD, Atlanta GA, 30331.  The season ticket price of $50.00 grants you admission to all 4 shows.
