Keeping It Wild and Hartfield Hikes                                                                                         2nd Annual Holiday Hike at Stone Mountain Park                                                                 Saturday, December 1, 2012 10 AM - 1 PM (approximate end time) Stone Mountain Park is a green oasis where friends and families can enjoy the outdoors. Listed in Frommer's 500 Places to Visit with Your Kids Before They Grow Up and cited by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as one of "35 Natural Wonders in Georgia You Must See Before You Die." Home to the world's largest piece of exposed granite, Stone Mountain Park offers a variety of attractions, entertainment and recreation. Please plan to spend the day in the park after the hike (optional). Additional fee for park activities. Entrance fee $10 per vehicle. The hike begins at 10:30 AM meeting in the Grist Mill parking lot (look for the Keeping It Wild banner). This hike is rated easy to moderate and will cover about 4 miles round trip. Expect a slow pace as we enjoy the Quarry Exhibit and other sites along the way. Some areas are narrow with lose gravel and a few steep steps. If you are looking for a faster paced hike or want to go earlier in the morning, join Hartfield's Hikers at 8 AM. This hike is rated moderate to strenuous. Expect a steady pace, hiking around Stone Mountain on the Cherokee Trail, 5 miles round trip. You can RSVP for the Hartfield's Hikers hike here. PLEASE NOTE: Each hike is limited to 20 participants. Children must be attended at all times. Please allow enough time to arrive on time (it's a big park).  If your hike has begun when you arrive please enjoy the park on your own. Hiking trails are not stroller friendly. Restrooms are available. Remember to dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes or boots, bring plenty of water and pack a healthy sack lunch with snacks. For the comfort of all, our hikes are smoke, alcohol, drug and pet free.
