Carl Orff's "Carmina burana" is one of the most popular pieces in the classical music repertoire, with its opening and closing movement, "O Fortuna," being used in countless films and commercials. Written in the 1930s using 12th and 13th century poems, the work caused an absolute sensation at its 1937 premiere in Germany. This concert features the rarely heard chamber instrumentation, which includes two grand pianos, timpani and five additional percussionists. Special guest soloists, The Georgia Regional Girls Choir, dancers from The Roswell Dance Theatre and projected screen images designed to enhance the onstage performance round out this concert, making this one of the highlights of the 2012-2013 season.
